Location
Padul, colloquially known as El Padul,[1][2] is a Spanish town and municipality located in the northwestern part of the Lecrín Valley region, in the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It borders the municipalities of Dúrcal, Villamena, Albuñuelas, Jayena, Alhendín, Villa de Otura, and Dílar. The Padul Lagoon is located within its area.
The municipality of Padul includes the population centers of Padul—the municipal capital—El Puntal, and Cahíz de San Gregorio, as well as the scattered towns of El Agía, El Aguadero, El Arroyo, La Casilla, Haza Grande, Jatate, La Lovaina, Marchena, Los Molinos, El Romeral, La Valía, Varcaile, Las Viñas, and Venta del Fraile.
A significant part of its area is occupied by the Sierra Nevada Natural Park.
As a necessary route between the Vega de Granada, the coast and the Alpujarra, and between the Sierra Nevada and El Temple, numerous settlers have left their mark on Padul, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological sites found in its surroundings.
